Sunday 2 March
Eighth Sunday in Ordinary time
Isaiah 49.14-15
Psalm 61
1Corinthians 4.1-5
Matthew 6.24-34

We are blessed with some inspiring and uplifting readings today as we are about to embark on our annual Lenten journey. The very brief reading from Isaiah is wonderfully succinct. The image of a mother suckling her young is immensely human – but, the prophet tells us, that intimate image is even more truly an image of the divine. The gospel today reinforces that truth with a host of other images that speak of the care that the creator has for his children – none of which is as personal as the image in Isaiah, but all of which remind disciples that there is only one real focus – if they can get that right, then everything else will follow.
