Sunday 4 May
Third Sunday of Easter
Acts 2.14, 22-33
Psalm 15
1Peter 1.17-21
Luke 24.13-36

This year we have heard the classic catechetical gospels of the Samaritan woman, the man born blind and the raising of Lazarus from John during Lent, so now we have a gospel from Luke that offers the same opportunity for catechetical reflection. Just as the Johannine gospels describe encounters with the Lord that he uses to bring people to faith, so, similarly, Luke offers a description of Jesus encountering downcast disciples who are ‘on the way’. He engages them in dialogue beginning by exploring their current situation; he uses the scriptures to throw light on their condition and finally breaks bread with them.
